Salsa Huichol is my favorite. Great flavor and good heat. I eat very hot food. Huichol is right for me for a meal. Anyone here saying it's not hot enough is just showing off. If you want it hotter grab a jar of chiltepines and ratchet it up a bit. Great salsa but the price over the internet here is double what I pay in a San Diego mercado.

This is the second hot sauce I fell in love with (the first was Trappey's peppers in vinegar, which is still the only one I use for black-eyed peas). To my palate, it's not hot at all, but it's SO flavorful. I like it on any and all potato dishes and fish tacos, but it's also good in tomato juice and veggie soup. When I first discovered it, I put it on everything. Nowadays, I tend to add cayenne to amp up the heat, or chipotle for a smoky touch.Try it. Mix with crema, plain yogurt, or sour cream and use as a sauce for roasted veggies or fresh fruit slices. Add to melted butter and pour on pasta with green peas. Add to mayo for a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. Even drizzle a bit over vanilla or chocolate ice cream. It's a treasure.

Salsa Huichol is my favorite. It's not real hot but has great flavor. I like it better than Cholula, Valentina, or Tapatio. If i was to have only one choice, it would be salsa huichol.

Worth whatever it costs

After tasting this salsa in Mexico many years ago, I have been buying it ever since. Sometimes I'm living near Mexican Americans, and the stores will have this sauce for $0.75 or $0.99 at most. Unfortunately, more often I'm having to buy the salsa over the internet and pay more than twice as much... but it's so good, it'll be your go-to salsa for making chili, quesadillas, whatever. I found that adding the salsa to sour cream (or vice versa) helped my guests who don't like spicy food to enjoy the flavor of the salsa (which really isn't too hot anyway). Definitely worth whatever it costs.

Salsa Huichol is one of the best Mexican hot sauces (technically it's a salsa picante) I've ever tasted. It has a deeper, smokier flavor than many others (think a really lively version of Cholula) and I find that it adds depth to just about any sauce, not to mention making home made burritos suddenly taste like they came from a taco truck and not my kitchen. This has really become my go-to sauce for south of the border flavors.I saw somebody say it's not vinegar based, I don't want to argue with anyone but vinegar is clearly one of the four listed ingredients. Also any sauce like this is vinegar based, inasmuch as vinegar is what keeps the ingredients preserved.

Not offensively hot (probably okay to serve to company in most cases)

Cons

For some people, it will not be hot enough for what they are looking for. I have to stress that this is not intended to be an endorphin rush inducing sauce,but i highly recommend trying it if you you regularly use sauces like cholula or valentina in your cooking or for flavor. In fact, i would put the heat level dead in the middle between cholula and valentina.

This sauce is not just some pepper juice you add to a dish to make it hot. This sauce has a delicious flavor, and what must be a fine selection of spices. It adds a spectrum of flavors to a dish. I don't like a sauce that makes my nose run, too much, and this meets that criteria too. You get flavor first, and heat second.

Southern California and Jalisco areas of Mexico.. great addition to seafoods, rice and chicken dishes..

Pros

NOT vinegar based, chile unique flavors. mixes well in making aeoli sauces and with fish chicken goat and beef and pork.. the works It is unbeatable.. not hot but if you want heat jack it up with another hotter sauce but for pure chile flavor and subtlety Huichol cannot be beaten
