Very finely ground with the right dark smoky color and deep rich complex flavor. This is genuine pasilla molido as it should be. Excellent for making salsa, tamales and enchiladas, and for creating just the right final flavor balance of a pot of chili. Mild heat.
The quantity is small, but that may be best to guarantee that you're always using the spice in its freshest state. Besides, with it's deep rich flavor, a little goes a long way.
Try this for adding depth and warmth to other dishes, not just Mexican. It's lovely stuff.
