Dried Cascabel whole chile pods

Cascabel chilies pronounced [kahs-kah-BEL], which means rattle, are also known as chile bola. They are nicknamed rattle chiles because of their shape and the sound they make when the dried chile is shaken. Cascabel Chiles are moderately hot with a nutty flavor and rich brown color. They are grown in many states in Mexico including Durango, Jalisco, Guerrero and Coahuila. The Cascabel chile has a sweet flavor that goes great with meats, chicken or fish. Tipically the cascabels are toasted on a comal and then used in soups, sauces, salsas and stews. Cascabel Chiles are available in powdered, dried and pureed forms and El Guapo brings the very best to your table. You can substitute the cascabels with guajillo, pequin, tepin or cayenne pepper.

I needed these peppers for a goat Barbacoa dish that I made for some of my Mexican friends. Now I am the most popular guy in the office. Only problem is now I have to make food for the office every week.

These chiles aren't available in our area. Your store was a great place to obtain them. There is a good selection of package sizes to choose from, and they are priced right.
  • If you need these for a particular recipe Mexgrocer is the place.
