Del Fuerte tomato sauce was born in the agricultural zone of Los Mochis, Sinaloa in 1933 as manufacturer of pure and tomato juice. This year one of the most important groups in the food industry of Mexico begins to take shape.

In 1945, Del Fuerte translates its operations to the Ex-Hacienda La Corona where sardines, vegetables, shrimp and sodas were canned. Its one of the oldest plants of the Del Fuerte group; and it’s still operating till this day, producing canned chiles and vegetables.

La Corona was bought by the North American company Heinz in 1963 and that same year Del Fuerte launched Ketchup into the market. In 1973, Alimentos Del Fuerte was born when Heinz sold La Corona to Nafin (National Financial/ Nacional Financiera) and to group of farmers in the region. Twelve years Nafin sold its share of the company.

In 1981 the Santa Rosa plant in Los Mochis was built, which started its operations under the name Productos Industrizlizados Del Fuerte. It focused on producing tomato derivatives. Today it continues operating, producing Del Fuerte Tomato sauce, Tomato paste and Embasa Ketchup.

Del Fuerte launched a very successful advertising campaign in 1986 with the slogan “Estaban los Tomatitos muy contentitos” (the tomatoes were very happy). Years later that same campaign is still in the mind of consumers.

Exploiting the possibilities and technology from the Santa Rosa facility, in 1992 Del Fuerte company launched their tomato sauce in TetraBrik. With this innovation, Del Fuerte showed its leadership to the point that almost all the competition started adopting this novelty package. In 1993, Alimentos Del Fuerte (Del Fuerte foods) created CorFuerte after becoming associated with Corinter, a food marketer with large coverage throughout the country. Later Corfuerte bought the Gourmet Perigord line and Arancia with brands such as La Gloria, Embasa and Cristal and also became associated with Intercafe to create Blason. By 1997, Grupo Desc (now Grupo Kuo) got majority ownership of CorFuerte making it part of its food division. Seven years later, in 2004 Del Fuerte launched vegetables in Tetra Recart, to innovate the vegetable category, positioning itself as the third brand in the world to pack solid food in TetraPak packaging, in 2005 the line of Del Fuerte Mushrooms in TetraPak packaging was launched, and in 2006 the line of Del Fuerte TetraPak Salsas like made in a molcajete was launched. Salsas included Verde Comalena, Taquera, Mexicana and Molcajeteada.

The “Lo Hacemos por ti” (We do it for you) campaign in which the company tells consumers their importance was launched in 2007 along with vegetables in the 190gr package, completing the Del Fuerte portfolio, and positioning the company as the first company to package solid foods in a 190gr presentation in the whole world. The varieties of Del Fuerte vegetables include Corn Kernels, Peas with carrots, peas and vegetable salad.

Two years later, another advertising campaign now with the slogan “Ese es nuestro Fuerte” (That’s our fort) was launched in 2009. That same year CorFuerte gets associated with Grupo Herdez to strengthen each other and create one of the biggest food groups in the country: Herdez Del Fuerte. Also versions of Del Fuerte Salsas like made in the molcajete in their 4 versions but now in 190g packages are launched. In 2010 another advertising campaign is launched, now with the slogan “Nace natural, llega natural” (born natural, arrives natural) to reaffirm their commitment to bring customers the natural origin of the Del Fuerte products. That same year, Del Fuerte tomato sauce changed its presentation in order to renew itself and provide consumers with the natural products they have always sought for.
