The apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe is one of the most fascinating Catholic lore of all times. As an extremely important icon in the Catholic Church, the Virgin Mary is shown in Mexico City at one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world: La Basilica de Guadalupe. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and the Americas, that?s why the medals are a reproduction of her image, to honor her and carry her next to our hearts.

According to the story, in a cold morning of December 9, 1531, a poor native Indian by the name of Juan Diego came across a vision of a beautiful lady, which he described as a ?lady from heaven? while he was on a hill in the Northwest of what is now Mexico City, called the Tepeyac. According to Juan Diego, this beautiful lady told him in his native nahuatl that she was the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and the earth. She then requested for a church to be built exactly on the spot where they were standing in her honor, so she could listen, attend and comfort all her children. Juan Diego told the local Spanish Archbishop, Fray Juan de Zum?rraga, about the ?Lady from heaven? he hand seen, the archbishop then instructed him to return and ask the Lady for a miraculous sign to prove her claim, so he could believe him. Juan Diego went back to the hill and had the vision again. He told the beautiful lady that the archbishop didn?t believe him and requested proof. The Virgin told Juan Diego to go and gather some Castile roses from the top of the Tepeyac Hill. It was winter and no roses bloomed, so obediently Juan Diego went to the hill and found roses of every sort. He proceeded to cut and put them in his cloak, and when he was done he took them to the Virgin Mary who was waiting for him. She then arranged the roses with her holy hands in his tilma and told him to reveal the contents of his cloak only to and in the presence of the Archbishop. When Juan Diego opened the cloak before the Archbishop on December 12, 1531, the beautiful roses fell to the floor revealing the beautiful image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, miraculously imprinted on the fabric. Diego?s tilma, a poor quality cactus-cloth, which should have deteriorated in 20 years, today shows no sign of decay and 479 years later still defies all scientific explanations of its origin.
