Beautifully written, amazing recipes

The intro to the book really draws you and makes you appreciate the tradition behind tamales - so much more than good food. I enjoyed learning about the deep rooted traditions and personal stories.
As far as the cookbook portion, it will never be considered a basic tamale cookbook. While the recipes are very complex - the result is amazing flavors, colors and aromas. In my opinion it's worth the time and effort to follow the lengthy ingredient list and cooking instructions.
Pros:Great stories of the traditions
Cons:There are no basic instructions, every recipe is built on layers and layers of flavor
There is a lot of flipping back and forth, as each recipe refers to many other recipes or techniques to complete (I think it's worth it, but for a casual cook it would be too much)
