Instructions for seasoning and caring for your fajita platter set:
All cast iron must be properly seasoned before use. Seasoning will prevent rusting and create a non-stick patina. For best results season your platter using an electric or gas oven. Once your platter is properly seasoned, it's ready for years of use.
General seasoning instructions:
1) Clean platter with hot soapy water and use a scouring pad to remove protective coating.
2) Rinse and dry platter thoroughly before seasoning.
3) Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil on the entire surface of cast iron platter. Do not apply too much oil. Do not use butter or olive oil when seasoning.
Seasoning platter in oven: Preheat oven to 350F. Place oiled platter in oven for one hour. Remove platter from oven and allow to cool. When cool, remove excess oil with a paper towel. Seasoned surface should be shiny but not sticky.
Seasoning platter on grill: Follow above instructions, then place oiled platter on preheated grill and cover for one hour. Continue to follow above instructions.
Care and storage: To keep platter properly seasoned do not wash in dishwasher or use detergents on cast iron surface. To properly clean platter soak it for several minutes in hot water and scrub surface with a plastic scouring pad or nylon brush. Dry thoroughly immediately after washing to prevent rusting. Apply a thin coat of oil before storing. After repeated seasoning and use a patina will develop and it maybe no longer necessary to oil platter before storage. Store platter in a dry place.
