The Story of the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe
In December 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill (Mexico City), asking that a church be built in her honor. When Juan Diego shared the message, Bishop Fray Juan de Zumárraga was skeptical and requested proof of the apparition.
On December 12, 1531, the Virgin instructed Juan Diego to gather flowers on the frozen hillside. Miraculously, he found Castilian roses blooming in winter and carried them in his cloak, or tilma. When he presented the roses to the bishop, they fell to the floor and a miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared on the tilma.
Amazed by the sign, the bishop believed Juan Diego’s story and ordered a chapel to be built at Tepeyac, marking the origin of the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the most important religious symbols in Mexico and Latin America.
The Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe, often called “La Villa,” is a major Roman Catholic sanctuary located at the foot of Tepeyac Hill in northern Mexico City. It is the second most visited Catholic shrine in the world, after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, attracting about 20 million pilgrims and visitors each year.
I like to shop at MexGrocer, because I find a good selection of products, which you don't easily find on the regular grocery stores. Plus they are customer service oriented, which I appreciate very much, and also very convenient shopping from home and not battling with traffic .
Thank you for adding so many new products.
I love the Heart shape clay mug. The decoration design on the mug is very nice. It is a nice hand made item to add to your mug collection. Well crafted.
