Review for Olla de Barro Frijolera sin Plomo / Lead Free Clay Bean Pot with lid
November 25, 2009
I was shopping for a lead free clay pot cooker, and this product was much more affordable than other artisan cooking pots for sale on the web. It arrived quickly, well packaged, and in excellent condition. I’ve used it on my gas stove several times now with a heat diffuser, and am delighted with it. The pot with the heat diffuser allows the food to cook but not burn for long periods with little attention, similar to an electric crock pot, but without the electric bill. The shape is perfect for filling with fresh greens and cooking down over time. Cooking temperatures of necessity stay low, preserving valuable nutrition. Beans froth up but don’t spill over and make a mess, like in other cookware. The lid is not a tight fit, allows steam out, but I just add more boiling water once or twice when I stir. The knob at the top never gets too hot to handle. The lovely design earns it a welcome place on my counter top, unlike my other cooking pots. It makes a great “starter†clay pot cooker, and has become my favorite kitchen pot.
